Building a High-Performing Health Center That Delivers Better Access, Engagement, and Care

How a purpose-built onsite primary care model outperformed traditional community access and created measurable value for employees and their employer, all within the first nine months.

Building a High-Performing Health Center That Delivers Better Access, Engagement, and Care
FROM VISION TO REALITY

Launching a new employer health center

When a municipality partnered with QuadMed, the goal extended beyond simply opening a new place to receive care. Together, the organizations designed and launched a purpose-built health center focused on improving access to care, creating stronger patient relationships and providing a better healthcare experience for employees and their families.

From facility planning and implementation through activation and ongoing engagement, QuadMed delivered a fully operational health center that rapidly achieved strong utilization and exceptional member satisfaction during its first nine months of operation.

RESULTS AFTER THE FIRST NINE MONTHS

ENGAGEMENT

Relationship-based care

Rather than simply providing episodic care, QuadMed focused on helping employees establish long-term relationships with a primary care provider. By year-end:

  • 214 members selected a QuadMed PCP
  • 69% of unique patients established a QuadMed PCP relationship
  • 79% activated their MyChart account
  • 32% scheduled appointments online

Five targeted Epic outreach campaigns encouraged preventive care: breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screening, A1C outreach, and flu vaccination.

QUALITY

High-quality primary care

The health center quickly evolved beyond treating acute illnesses. Launch-year clinical accomplishments included:

  • 105 skin cancer screenings and 26 lesion removal procedures; more than 50% of excisions identified pre-cancerous conditions
  • Two melanomas detected early
  • 147 flu vaccinations administered
  • Occupational health and workers’ compensation services launched, with DOT certification added to provider capabilities

Primary care also demonstrated strong management of chronic disease while maintaining relatively low specialty referral utilization.

THE QUADMED DIFFERENCE

An integrated primary care strategy

The municipality partnership illustrates what happens when employers move beyond traditional healthcare purchasing toward an integrated primary care strategy. In fewer than nine months, the partnership opened and operationalized a new employer-sponsored health center, established hundreds of new primary care relationships, achieved industry-leading patient satisfaction, delivered dramatically faster access than community primary care, engaged members through digital outreach, and began generating measurable healthcare savings.
